Ultra Doux [pronounced „ültra doo“] is a project by Cologne-based musician, songwriter and producer Marin Geier. Having played guitar and keyboards as well as being one of the principal songwriters for Cologne synth-pop outfit Xul Zolar, with whom he released two albums, several EPs and toured all over Europe, Geier kept writing songs after his band went on hiatus in 2023, simply to keep making music.

Initially without a clear idea of where to take his material, the project began to take shape when he asked fellow Cologne musicians Elisa Metz (who releases under various monikers, most notably Henry Lee) and GiGi Girls singer Laura Mancini to contribute vocals to his demos. The result is a collection of songs — for the most part written and produced in Geier’s bedroom — that draw freely on a wide range of genres, including synth-pop, post-punk, shoegaze, kraut and even folk, showing little regard for conventions or genre barriers. Wrapped in a lo-fi aesthetic without compromising attention to detail, the first tracks reveal Geier’s knack for catchy melodies, as well as his musical curiosity and willingness to experiment.
