"Keshavara awarded the Holger Czukay Preis 2026"

Keshavara has been awarded the main prize of 15,000€ for this year’s Holger Czukay Prize! With this prize, Cologne honors artists who have left their mark on city through their work or who influence and shape current developments. The prize’s name reflects both an acknowledgment of Cologne’s significant pop music tradition and an appreciation and strengthening of this genre with a view to the future. The jury’s statement reads:

“The band Keshavara and their leader Keshav Purushotham have brought something truly unique and recognizable to the Cologne music scene over many years. Keshavara blends diverse influences in a very understated yet consistent way, creating an innovative and individual sound – somewhere between psychedelic pop , krautrock, electronica, and global sonic concepts. Keshavara’s music never feels contrived, but rather organic and handcrafted, with a clear artistic vision. In their concerts, Keshavara playfully combines a wide range of artistic expressions, such as dance, theater, film, and performance art. Without conforming to trends, Keshavara has developed its own aesthetic, which is internationally relevant and thus resonates far beyond the city limits. The band plays an important role for Cologne because it demonstrates how open and diverse pop music can be conceived here.”
