Keshavara took the imaginative soundworlds of their previous album »III« as a starting point, digging even deeper and tracing the roots of their sound into its furthest ramifications. The result is »Moondram Sevi«, an album that sounds familiar and, at the same time, thrillingly different: dub and the disco diaspora meet Kollywood soundtracks, Balearic sound, neo-library music, psychedelia, prog and kraut-infused grooves. Sahana Naresh sings on three tracks, including »Pambu Mookan Uncle« and »Sa Re Ga Ma Pa«. With all its kaleidoscopic imagery and intoxicating delight in storytelling, »Moondram Sevi« has something distinctly cinematic about it – while Keshavara’s characteristic Babylonian jumble of German, English, Tamil & gibberish once again runs through the album.
With Keshavara, language understands itself as music, while music understands itself as language. And however cinematic the music on the new album may be, it always remains danceable: »Moondram Sevi« – Tamil for »the third ear« – is cinema for the mind and music for the feet.
